Hi everyone. I live in Brooklyn. Just got a masters degree and now I'm unemployed, so I have lots of time for things like starting tribes.
When I was a kid, Thayer Street was the coolest place to hang and my teen years revolved around the record stores and sandwich shops, the bookstores and the Avon. I didn't live there like some folks did. I didn't hang out on the street for hours and hours, but I loved that other people did.
Does anyone remember Jake's Ice Cream Parlor? We used to play Donkey Kong and Pacman there back in the day. It was a really cool old-fashioned place. A bit of a dump. Now the ultra slick Paragon is in that space. It couldn't be a more different crowd.

Re: Meet & Greet
Mon, January 23, 2006 - 8:58 PMHi Sheryl. I lived in Providence from 82-92 and yes I remember all that and more. As a matter of fact I might even know you. Does your last name start with the letter C?I was one of the folks who did hang out on the street for hours. Do you remember Peguins?Do you remember the Back Porch or In Your Ear? -

Re: Meet & Greet
Tue, January 24, 2006 - 6:41 PMIn Your Ear lasted until very recently.
they put up a good fight.
i think if they hadn't put a Newbury Comics in the new mall,
it would have lasted even longer.
how weird is it that Newbury Comics is now the big, established chain
that's taking over and driving everyone else out?

Re: Meet & Greet
Wed, February 1, 2006 - 1:37 PMYeah, Jenn. My last name does begin with C--and yours? I do remember Penguins and I loved In Your Ear. Sad that it's gone now. I think the Army/Navy store still survives, though the College Hill bookstore finally folded. Sad.
Were you an East Side kid, or did you travel to hang? Public school, or part of the Wheeler/Moses Brown group? I was a Nathan Bishop kid before heading to the cement canyons of Classical.
